We outsourced our New Delhi residency to Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company Virtual Employee. As we left India, Ashish Sharma began a period of employment as International Artist in Residence. He worked with communities to fulfil the residency objectives and delivered his results via Skype, mobile phone photos and emailed reports.
From the UK we mentored Ashish as he set up classes to teach Hindi basics to African immigrants, organised an arts and craft initiative within a Muslim school in a predominantly Hindu neighbourhood and provided educational advice for a group of gambling teens.
Ashish had a background in science and extensive call centre experience, but no art training. During his residency he confided he wanted to become an artist.
